Navoras's voices belong to real Kenyan actors, and they sound real. That's what makes them useful, and why they must never be used to deceive. This policy is part of our terms of service and applies to everyone who uses Navoras, on every plan and through every key.
Why this policy
Kenyans hear a lot of audio they can't check: radio adverts, phone calls, voice notes. A convincing voice can move money or votes. We'd rather lose a customer than let a Navoras voice be used to fool someone.
Never
Don't use Navoras to make audio that:
- pretends to be a real person, or puts words in a real person's mouth, without their written permission: a public figure, a customer, your boss, anyone;
- defrauds or scams, such as "I sent you money by mistake" calls, fake M-Pesa reversals, fake prizes, loans or jobs, or messages pretending to come from a bank, Safaricom, KRA or any other organisation;
- harasses, threatens or incites, or attacks people for their ethnicity, religion, gender or any other part of who they are;
- is sexual and involves anyone under 18, or is sexual without consent;
- is illegal, or advertises something illegal;
- misleads, with false claims about health, money, products or services that you can't support.
And don't use Navoras's audio to build or train another speech model, or to copy a Navoras voice.
Elections
Political audio is allowed when it's honest: a candidate's own message, read by a Navoras voice and said to be one. Not allowed, at any time:
- audio that pretends to be a candidate, an official, the IEBC or a journalist;
- audio that misleads people about when, where or how to vote, or about results;
- audio with a voice whose actor has ruled out political messages.
In the months around Kenya's general election (August 2027), we review reports about political audio within a working day, and may ask a workspace making political audio who it's for.
Each voice's limits
Our actors agreed to lend their voices, and some ruled out uses, such as political messages, religious messages, or adverts for alcohol or betting. Each voice's page says what it may not be used for, and those limits are part of this policy.
Saying it's AI
Where listeners could think they're hearing a real person, such as on a phone line or in a voice note, tell them the voice is generated. Where a platform or the law asks you to label AI audio, do so. Navoras's audio may carry an inaudible watermark that marks it as ours.
What we do about misuse
We look for misuse, including requests that match known scam scripts in English and Kiswahili, which are flagged for a person to review rather than refused outright. When we find misuse we may suspend the key, suspend or close the workspace, keep the evidence, and report it to the police or the authorities where the law requires or someone is at risk. For fraud, impersonation and election misuse we act at once, without warning. Credits in a workspace closed for misuse aren't refunded.
Report misuse
Heard audio you think was made with Navoras and breaks this policy? Tell us through our contact page or at Write to us using the form , with where you heard it, when, and a copy if you have one. We read every report within a working day.
