These terms are the agreement between Navoras and the people and companies that use it: the dashboard, the API and everything made with them. They cover paying for Navoras, who owns what, and what it may be used for. By creating an account, or using a Navoras key, you accept them.
This agreement
"Navoras", "we" and "us" means Navoras, of Nairobi, Kenya. "You" means the person or business that uses Navoras, and the people it lets into its workspace. If you accept these terms for a business, you confirm you're allowed to bind it.
You must be at least 18 to use Navoras. Our privacy policy and our acceptable use policy form part of these terms.
Accounts, workspaces and keys
- Each workspace has one owner, who is responsible for it and its bill. Owners and admins can invite people, choose their role, and make API keys.
- Keep access to your email secure, since log-in links are sent there, and keep your API keys secret: anyone with a key can spend your workspace's credits. You're responsible for what happens in your workspace and with its keys, including what the people you invite do.
- Tell us straight away at Write to us using the form if you think someone has got into your account or a key has leaked. Revoke a leaked key at once from the API keys page.
- The free plan is once per person. Don't make extra accounts or workspaces to get it again.
Credits, plans and payment
Credits
Navoras is paid for in credits. What each kind of work costs in credits (speech by the character, forced alignment by the second) is shown on our pricing page and in our help centre. Credits are held when work starts and taken only when it succeeds; work that fails costs nothing. Credits belong to the workspace, can't be moved to another workspace, and have no cash value.
Plans
A plan grants credits at the start of each month of the plan, and sets limits: how many requests can run at once, how long history is kept, how many people and pronunciation dictionaries the workspace may have, and whether the audio may be used commercially. Each plan's price and limits are on our pricing page and your billing page. Prices are in Kenyan shillings. On paid plans a month's unused credits are kept for one more month; on the free plan they end with the month.
Top-ups
You can buy packs of credits on top of a plan, or without one, by card or M-Pesa. A pack's credits last for the months shown when you buy it. Credits that expire soonest are spent first.
Paying
- By card, your plan renews automatically each month until you stop it. Paystack charges your card at the start of each month. If you turn on auto top-up, we buy the pack you chose on your saved card when your credits fall below the level you set.
- By M-Pesa, you pay for 1, 3 or 12 months ahead. It doesn't renew by itself; we remind you before it runs out.
If a card renewal fails, we'll tell you and keep your plan in force for a few days while you fix it. After that the workspace has no plan of its own until it's paid, but keeps the credits it has.
Changing or stopping
A move to a dearer plan starts at once, with its first month's credits. A move to a cheaper plan starts when your paid month ends. Stopping a card plan keeps it in force to the end of the month you paid for. Credits you already have stay until they expire.
Refunds and taxes
Payments cover the plan months or the pack you paid for, and aren't refunded for unused credits, except where the law requires it or we failed to provide the service. If something went wrong, write to us and we'll put it right. We aren't registered for VAT yet, so none is charged today. Once we are, VAT at the rate the law sets is added to each payment, and your receipts will show it and our KRA PIN; we'll email workspace owners before that starts.
We may change prices and credit rates. A change to a plan's price applies from your next period, and we'll email workspace owners at least 30 days before. Credits already granted or bought keep their value.
Your text and audio
"Your content" is what you send to Navoras: the text you ask to be spoken, audio you send for alignment, pronunciation dictionaries, and what you write in support cases. You keep all your rights in it.
You give us permission to store and process your content only as needed to provide Navoras: to turn it into speech, to keep it in your history for your plan's days, and to help you when you ask. With logging off for a request or key, we keep none of its text or audio. We don't use your content to train our models, and we don't let anyone else use it.
For everything you send, you confirm you have the right to use it this way, and that audio you send for alignment was recorded with the permission of the people in it.
The audio we make
- On a paid plan, the audio Navoras makes for you is yours to use, commercially included, in adverts, broadcast, apps, phone lines and anywhere else, for as long as you like, even after you stop using Navoras.
- On the free plan, the audio is for projects that aren't commercial, and should credit Navoras.
- Not to train other models. Don't use Navoras's audio to build or train a speech model, or to copy a Navoras voice.
- Labelling. Where a platform or the law asks you to say that audio is AI-generated, it's your responsibility to say so. Navoras's audio may carry an inaudible watermark that marks it as made by Navoras.
- What it says is yours. You choose the words, so you're responsible for what the audio says and where it's used.
The voices
Navoras's voices come from Kenyan voice actors under contract. Some actors rule out uses of their voice (for example political messages); each voice's restrictions are shown on its page and are part of these terms. If an actor withdraws their voice, it stays usable for a notice period we announce, then leaves the library; audio you made before then stays yours to use.
Acceptable use
Using Navoras for anything our acceptable use policy forbids is a breach of these terms: impersonating real people, fraud and scams, deceptive political audio, and the rest. Also don't:
- try to get round plan limits, keys' limits, security, or the checks on sign-up;
- share a key outside your organisation, or resell access to Navoras without our agreement;
- copy or reverse-engineer Navoras's models or voices, or overload the service.
Data processing
When your content includes personal information about other people (names in a script, voices in audio you send for alignment), you are its controller and we process it for you. For that information we:
- process it only to provide Navoras, following your instructions as given through the service;
- make sure our staff and providers who handle it are bound to keep it confidential;
- protect it with the security measures our privacy policy describes;
- use only the providers listed in our privacy policy, each bound to protect it, and update that list before adding a new one;
- tell you without undue delay if a breach affects it;
- help you answer requests from the people it's about;
- delete it when your plan's history days run out, when you delete it, or when your workspace is closed, unless the law requires us to keep it.
If your organisation needs a separate signed data processing agreement, it comes with the Business plan; or write to Write to us using the form .
The service and the API
We work to keep Navoras running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We'll try to warn you before planned maintenance. Navoras's API is compatible with another provider's published API; that compatibility is a feature, and we may change which of its endpoints and fields we support. Changes that would break code written for Navoras are announced ahead. If we remove something central to your plan, you may stop and we'll refund the unused part of your prepaid period.
If you suggest improvements, we may use your ideas without owing you anything.
Suspension and ending
You can stop using Navoras at any time. We may suspend a key or a workspace that breaks these terms or our acceptable use policy, doesn't pay, or puts the service or others at risk. Where we can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix it; for fraud, impersonation or election misuse we act at once. Credits in a workspace closed for misuse aren't refunded.
The sections on your content, the audio we make, liability and disputes still apply after this agreement ends.
Warranties and liability
Apart from what these terms promise, Navoras is provided "as is". Speech is generated, so a voice can
occasionally mispronounce a word or read a number wrong; check audio before you rely on it, and use
read-back (x-navoras-verify) where accuracy matters.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, lost business or lost data, and our total liability to you for anything to do with Navoras is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
You agree to cover our reasonable costs if someone brings a claim against us because of your content or how you used Navoras in breach of these terms.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. If there's a disagreement, please write to us first; most things can be solved quickly. If we can't resolve it within 30 days, either of us may take it to the courts of Kenya, at Nairobi.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Navoras changes. We'll update the date at the top, and email workspace owners at least 30 days before a change that matters takes effect. If you keep using Navoras after that, the new terms apply; if you don't accept them, you can stop before they do.
